As the year 2018 has concluded a few days back, the Jammu and Kashmir Police announced the figure of crimes and cases registered in the department throughout the year on Wednesday.
While briefing a presser at Police headquarters Srinagar, the Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh, along with other officers said that 12946, cases were registered in 2018, in which 11880 cases were disposed of, and the disposal rate has gone up to 60 per cent.
He said there were total 97 encounters throughout the year, and 83 spots where the encounter took place suffered collateral damage. During the encounters 252, militants were killed, Jammu and Kashmir police lost 45 police personnel, five CRPF men and 30 army personnel were also killed. There were 44 civilians killed by “militants”.
They said during the year 97, non-militancy related murder cases were registered, in which 32 cases were disposed of and rest cases are pending. 312 cases related to Narcotics were registered, in which 482 persons were arrested, and 71 cases were disposed of.
2006, road accidents related cases were also registered, in which 272 people died. In 225 cases people died in 4 wheelers, 46 in two-wheelers, and one in a three-wheeler. 2551 people have sustained injuries. There were 143 domestic cases registered, in which 89 cases were closed up. 762 burglary cases were also registered.
Commenting on the recent Jamia Masjid controversy DGP Singh said that ISIS outfit is not much in the valley, however, a section of youth is being radicalised.
