Two dead, five injured as ‘speeding army vehicle’ hits passenger cab at Banihal

A speeding army vehicle on Friday killed two persons and injured five others after it hit a passenger cab on Srinagar-Jammu highway near Banihal Friday.

Police officials said that an army vehicle on way to Udhampur from Srinagar hit a passenger vehicle head-on near Chamalwas.

Two persons, including the driver of the passenger cab, bearing registration number JK 19 0325, died on the spot.

They were identified as Manjeet Singh (28), son of Jagit Ram, resident of Digdol and Nisar Ahmad (38), a resident of Batmaloo Srinagar.

Five injured persons were identified as Mohd Tariq, son of Abdullah, resident of Ransu Budgam; Fayaz Ahmed son of Ghulam Mohd resident of Manchar Kupwara; Dilshada Begum wife of Mohd Ashraf Sheikh resident of Alinbass Tehsil Pogal Parisktan; Irshad Ahmed Najar son of Khajar Mohd Najar resident of Pulwama and Mukhtar Ahmed son of Ab Aziz Khan resident of Krawa Banihal.

An official said that a case FIR number 138/2017 U/S 279/304-A RPC was registered into the incident.
