Government on Thursday placed Hurriyat (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest to prevent his participation in a seminar at the residence of Syed Ali Geelani to pay tributes to Imam Hussain (AS), grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
A spokesperson of the amalgam said that a posse of policemen arrived at the Nigeen residence of Mirwaiz and placed him under detention.
“Placed under #HouseArrest as I was about to leave for a seminar at Geelani Sb’s house to pay tributes to #ImamHussain(RA)& MartyrsOfKarbala,” tweeted Mirwaiz.
