SCA to organise Women’s T-20 championship; A new era, says Parra

After successfully organizing T-20 championship across all districts of the state for men, Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council owned State Cricket Academy is all set to hold a T-20 tourney for women. This will be a maiden tournament of such kind for women organized by State Cricket Academy, officials informed.

As many as 14 teams across the state are slated to take part in the tourney that will be played in Bakhshi Stadium where a turf has been prepared specifically for the tournament.

Besides Kashmir region, teams from Jammu and Ladakh-bolstered by players who have represented J&K at various levels -will vie for title glory.

Meanwhile, Imran Ansari, Minsiter for Youth Services and Sports was all praise for State Cricket Academy for taking the sport to unchartered areas.

“I am really impressed by the way State Cricket Academy is doing its work. They need all the praise for organizing T-20 Championship across the all districts of the state. Now, the upcoming tournament for women is something that hasn’t been done before. It will definitely help women cricket to grow in the state. This is just a beginning and we are confident of strengthening sports culture in the state. He further added that there is a proposal in the pipeline to organize a blind cricketers of the state as well, however that will be follow the women’s tournament”.

Secretary Sports Council Waheed Ur Rehman Parra hoped the tournament will start a new era in the women’s cricket.

“Women cricket hasn’t been given attention in the years gone by and with this tournament we want to make sure women’s cricket isn’t left behind,” he said.

Director State Cricket Academy Mubashir Hassan said that the main aim of the tourney is to give women cricketers platform to show case their skill. Like with men’s tournament, we are hopeful of unearthing new talent in this tournament too,” he said.
