Lolab youth ‘disappears’, another claims torture by Army

A youth has allegedly “disappeared” since Thursday morning after he along with his friend were arrested by army in Dewar forests of Lolab in Kupwara district. The missing youth is identified as Nasrullah Ahmad of Dewar village.

The events unfolded after army, police officials said, arrested the duo in the forests of Dewar.

One of the two, identified as Manzoor Ahmad was released with severe torture marks all over his body. “He is being treated in a local health centre of the area,” police officials at Police Station Lalpora said.

Sources in police said that the army informed them that they have released both the youth. However, police said that they are yet to find Nasarullah. A police party has launched a manhunt in the forests to find the “disappeared” youth.

A case has been registered under FIR No. 62/2017 in police station Lalpora. Police said that Manzoor told them that he was severaly beaten and tortured by the army before being set free.

Meanwhile, intense protests have erupted in the area with people demanding action against army and demanding the whereabouts of Nasrullah.
