Union Home Ministry presented numbers and quoted instances in Indian Parliament Tuesday that projected Kashmiri separatist leadership in ‘bad light’.

15 instances were quoted where separatists “tried to exploit sentiments” on “alleged excesses committed by security forces, misuse of AFSPA and Public Safety Act, restriction of movements of separatists, alleged apathy of government towards flood affected families, issue of return of Kashmiri pandits and number of shutdown calls”.

Minister of State for Home, HP Chaudhary told the Lok Sabha Tuesday that post-floods, the separatists tried to “project themselves as saviours of the Kashmiri people while at the same time tried to undermine the relief and rehabilitation work done by government and security forces”.

Chaudhary said separatists also called for a shutdown in Kashmir during PM Modi’s J&K visits last year.

Besides mentioning the convergence of Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik on same platform after seven years to condole Narbal killing, Home Ministry has also taken exception to the procession carried out on Geelani’s return to Srinagar on April 15 “in which anti-national slogans and seditious speeches were made by Masarat Alam who was also found to be involved in leading the crowd to raise anti-national slogans and hoist Pakistani flags.”

The MHA has said that separatists tried “a communal colour” to give the incident of a minor scuffle between Bhandarawalas and pony-owners during the 2014 Amarnath Yatra and in August 2014, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Shabir Shah tried to give Kausarnag Yatra “a communal colour” as well and organised protests in South Kashmir.

“Geelani tried to exploit the death of six civilians in a road accident in July last year by terming the road accident as a ‘deliberate act to kill Kashmiri people’ and called for a two-day bandh,” Chaudhary said.

“The government is committed to ensure that no anti-national activities take place which destabilizes the situation in J&K with consequences across the country but remains open to dialogue with those who eschew the path of violence and are willing to work within the framework of the Constitution of India.”
