Militant killed in Sopore, encounter going on

SRINAGAR

A militant was killed after SOG and army personnel trapped two to three militants in the Marbel, Jungle some 20 KMs from apple town Sopore in north Kashmir.

Sources said that the gunfight was going as reinforcement was rushed to the area.

They added that Special Operations Group of the state police with troops from CRPF and 22 RR 22 launched a cordon-and-search operation at Cherhaar heights in Sopore after receiving information about the presence of three militants.

“One militant was killed in the beginning of the operation which was continuing in the snowbound area,” sources said.

Two more militants are believed to be holed up at a hideout which has partly been busted.

Police spokesman, when contacted said that police have no information about the encounter as yet.
