Scores of residents from Panchayat Halka Yaroo in Langate Handwara Thursday alleged that the Sarpanch of their Ward has swindled a huge chunk of money and the works done under MGNREGA in the area are present on papers only.
A delegation headed by a local Aijaz Ahmed Bhat told CNS that Sarpanch Yaroo, Abdul Majid Wani is looting the state exchequer on the name of different Centrally sponsored schemes. “The said Sarpanch with the help of Block officials has embezzled a large chunk of money that was meant for IAY beneficiaries and MGNREGA works,” they said.
They said that we had sought information from Block Development Officer Langete about the works done by Sarpanch under MGNREGA. “The irony is that Block Development Office gave its hand written reply on a plain paper in which it claimed that one work has been completed while four works are in progress while the fact is that no works have been done in the area,” they said and appealed to the Panchayati Raj Minister to look into the matter.
They alleged that Sarpanch Abdul Majeed Wani has given benefits to his relatives under IAY scheme. “He is misusing his power and position.”
