Observe Jan 26 as protest day: Bar

The Kashmir Bar Association has appealed people to observe January 26 as the protest day.


According to a statement issued on Sunday, “The 26th January is being observed as a republic day by the Union of India who have suppressed the basic human rights and political and legal rights of the people of the J&K since 1947 with the advent of occupation of the state, since the government of India is in constant denial of justice to the people of J&K and have suppressed the legal, constitutional and basic human rights of the people of J&K as such the people of J&K are justified in observing 26th of January as a protest day.”


The statement further said that the Bar Association supports and extends its cooperation with the people of J&K in observing the 26th of January as a protest day (Black Day).


The Bar has also paid tributes to the martyrs including the martyrs of Gowkadal Srinagar massacre.


“It was observed in the meeting that the freedom struggle is sacrosanct and the people of Jammu and Kashmir have the first priority for peaceful and permanent resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspiration of the people of J&K,” the statement said.
