CSC asked to submit report on Feb 1

KL Report

SRINAGAR

The Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) which is yet to prepare its report based on its analysis of demands for creation of new administrative units in the state has been asked to submit the same before state cabinet on February1.

A senior Congress minister said that the CSC was scheduled to file its report on Friday before the state cabinet but the same was not done because of huge demands for new administrative units which need a thorough analysis by the committee.

“CSC had been asked to submit its report today but since the cabinet meeting could not take place the Committee has been asked to submit it on February 1. There are huge demands for creation of new units before the CSC and that is why it has not been able to prepare a report so far. These demands need a thorough analysis before the CSC could give its final opinion,” the Congress minister informed.

The minister also added that the chief minister is desirous of having a discussion on the creation of new administrative units in the state cabinet. Although not on its formal agenda, the state cabinet today afternoon was to witness an exhaustive discussion on creation of new administrative units in the state.

The creation of the proposed 955 administrative units will cost the State around Rs 800 crore including recurring and non-recurring expenditure, reportedly. Sources said that the government would have to create more than 4600 posts under various categories for these units.

The government had constituted a committee headed by former chief secretary S S Bloeria in 2007 but later its report was termed inconclusive in 2009. In 2010, the government revived the committee with Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai as its head. The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demands that both the reports be made public. PDP has also questioned the timing chosen by the government to go for implementation of these reports saying that the same is being done taking vote banks into consideration. (KNS)
