Omar terms Jan 21 as ‘dark day’ in Kashmir’s history

On the eve of 24th anniversary of Gaw Kadal Massacre, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday tweeted the incident as a very dark day in the recent history of Kashmir.


“Today marks the anniversary of a very dark day in the recent history of Kashmir.” Omar wrote on micro blogging site, Twitter. “The #Gawkadal killings symbolise much of what went wrong.”


In the next immediate tweet, Omar wrote: “Though violence levels are at a record low memories of incidents like #Gawkadal reinforce why Kashmir has to be freed of violence & guns.”


Pertinently, on Jan 21, 1990 a demonstration against Chota Bazar incident at Gawkadal was fired upon resulting into the death of 50 persons, according to various Human rights organizations. Protesters in large number were also injured.
