SRINAGAR: Eid was celebrated across Jammu region with religious fervor and it was incident free. Sections in Kargil had celebrated Eid on Tuesday after the local clergy reported the appearance of crescent on Monday.
An official spokesman said a large congregation was held at Eidgah, Residency Road, Jammu where thousands of Muslims offered Eid namaz and exchanged greetings. Imam delivered the religious sermons and prayed for peace and harmony in the State.
The District administration had made elaborate arrangements for the smooth celebrations of Eid festival across the district. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Sanjeev Verma, IGP Jammu, M K Sinha, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar were also present on the occasion and exchanged Eid greetings.
In his greeting message, the Div Com prayed to the Almighty to keep the humanity firm in its faith and good deeds and bless people with a good life. He has expressed hope that this auspicious occasion would be the harbinger of peace, progress, prosperity and would strengthen the bonds of communal harmony, brotherhood and amity, which are the hallmarks of J&K’s glorious pluralistic traditions.
In Ramban, the main Eid prayer was held at Jamia Masjid, Ramban where a large number of people offered prayers and prayed for peace, development and prosperity of the State, the official spokesman said.
Elaborate security and other necessary arrangements were made by district and police administration for smooth celebration of the festival.
ADDC, Nawab Din, SSP, Anita Sharma, ACR, Harbans Lal, ASP, Sanjay Parihar extended greetings to the Muslim brethren and prayed for unity, communal harmony and brotherhood in the society.
Eid namaz was also offered at other mosques of town and its outskirts including, mosques of Chandrog, Maitra and Upper Ramban.
At Udhampur, the main congregation was held at Eidgah, Adarsh Colony where thousands of devotees offered Eid prayers, where elaborate arrangements were made by the District Administration for the smooth celebration of festival.
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Dr Piyush Singla exchanged warm greetings with the devotees and prayed for peace and tranquility in the district. He said such religious occasions help in strengthening the bond of love and brotherhood among different sections of the society.
On the occasion, the DDC also distributed plants, arranged by an NGO Jiyo aur Jeene Do, among the devotees.
Among others, Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur Rajiv Om Parkash Pandey, ASP Rajinder Katoch, Auqaf Administrator, Er Sajad Bashir Somberia, NGO ‘Jiyo aur Jeene Do‘ President Tariq Shah besides prominent citizens from all walks of life were also present on the occasion.
At Kishtwar, the main congregation took place at Chowgan ground where more than ten thousand devotees performed the prayers.
Elaborate necessary arrangements were made by the district and police administration for smooth celebrations of the festival.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana, SSP Kishtwar, Shakti Kumar Pathak, ADC Kishtwar, Pawan Kumar Parihar and other officers were also present on the occasion and exchanged Eid greetings with the devotees and prayed for peace, tranquility, integrity, communal harmony and brotherhood in the district as well as in the State.
