A noted Urdu poet and former vice chancellor of the University of Kashmir Professor Hamidi Kashmiri passed away on Wednesday late evening in Srinagar.
Reports said that Kashmiri was unwell and breathed his last at his residence in Srinagar late last night.
In 2005, Kashmiri received a Ghalib Award and Sahitya Akademi Award, and he is the recipient of fifty books. In 2010, he was also honoured by the Government of India with the third highest civilian award of Padma Shri.
Meanwhile, former power development department (PDD) commissioner, A K Raina breathed his last in Jammu.
