World Rabies Day Commemorated At GMC Srinagar

SRINAGAR: On the occasion of World Rabies Day 2020, a webinar was organised by the department of community medicine government Medical College Srinagar in collaboration with ECHO on the theme END RABIES: COLLABORATE, VACCINATE on Monday.

The online program was inaugurated by Dr S Muhammad Salim Khan, professor and HOD Community Medicine, Government Medical College Srinagar and was coordinated by Dr. Waseem Raja, Lecturer while Dr Rifat Jan and Dr Ruqia Quansar, Lecturers department of community medicine were the resource persons who deliberated on the global, national and local scenario, clinical case presentation and management of animal bite exposure.

This was followed by case scenarios and a Q&A session. The workshop was attended by scores of doctors, paramedics and students. The webinar was organised in association with Indian Association of preventive and social medicine (IAPSM), Indian public health association (IPHA), the association for prevention and control of rabies in India (APCRI) and Consortium against rabies (CAR). Dr.Fajar Rafiq Shah, Senior Executive Projects and Rohan coordinated the webinar on behalf of ECHO-India.

Pertinent to mention, annually 6-7 thousand dog bite cases are reported by Anti Rabies Clinic at SMHS Hospital run by the department of community medicine where anti-rabies vaccines and rabies immunoglobulin are provided free of cost to the animal bite victims.
