SRINAGAR: After the results of the KAS-2018 were out, the excited family is too busy. Relatives and friends are coming to congratulate the family for their daughter’s rare fait of topping the results of the KAS. She secured 1118.33 marks to top the list.

A resident of Karan Nagar in Srinagar, Kamila is the daughter of Malik Mushtaq Ahmad, a retired Government employee and Tasleema Mushtaq, a working government employee. Kamila said she instantly got busy in receiving congratulatory messages and the moment The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) made the list of the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE)-2018 public.

Malik Kamila Mushtaq, 27, has pursued her Bachelors in technology from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar, in the civil engineering branch.

The administrative services’ prelims examination started in 2018, followed by the mains in 2019 and the interview in 2020. Kamila qualified the examination in the very first attempt.

“I was confident of myself that I would qualify the exam based on my performance in the mains and the interview,” Kamila said.

Till Tuesday evening, she was a teacher. Kamila was appointed a government school teacher last year. Currently, she is posted at the Boys Higher Secondary School, Zainakote.

“I used to teach mathematics to ninth and tenth graders. I was preparing for the exam while doing a job,” she said.

Initially, she said, she started preparing for the civil service examination in 2017 with her optional subject being anthropology.

Preparing for the examination needs motivation and hard work, which she had it all. Kamila emphasised that the exam certainly is difficult, but qualifying it is very much achievable for anyone who works hard and has the grit and determination to persevere in that direction.

“There are highs and lows in the preparation of this examination, but I was able to keep myself motivated by the grace of Allah and the support of my family,” she insisted.

Kamila’s hobbies include puzzle solving which helps her in problem-solving abilities. “Apart from that, I don’t recommend anyone to be a book worm, especially if someone is aiming to qualify competitive exams. It needs an out of the box thinking,” she believes.

The topper credits her family as well as all her teachers who have nurtured her in the cumbersome journey of qualifying the exam. She said that she shares her success with everyone who has been associated with her in any way.

“This isn’t something that happens overnight. This isn’t just one exam,” Kamila said. “It’s a journey, the victory of which has to be mandatorily shared with everyone who has played a part in it.”

The topper’s mother is on cloud nine. “I am extremely happy at the moment. I knew she could do this because hard work certainly doesn’t go waste,” she said.

Kamila has schooled at Tiny Hearts school in Srinagar.

The CCE preliminary examinations were conducted on September 16, 2018, in which total number 25188 candidates participated. On September 27, 2018, the results were declared in which a total of 1750 candidates had successfully made it to the written (Mains) examination. The Main written examination was held between July 22 and July 29 of the year 2019. Out of the 229 candidates who had qualified for appearing in the interview, a total of 70 were selected.

Kamila was one of the 15 candidates who were coached at the Initiative for Competition Promotion (ICP) in Srinagar. “We thank God for being able to help these boys and girls in choosing their career,” one of the ICP functionaries said. “We will continue extending help to them in future too.”
