Director Horticulture, Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, on Monday directed Chief Horticulture Officers to develop public sector nurseries to ensure production of quality fruit plants.
The Director was speaking at a meeting held here today to take stock of the works of the department. The meeting was attended by the Chief Horticulture Officers of the division.
Progress of various developmental schemes was reviewed during the of meeting, besides up-to-date expenditure. The concerned officers were asked to utilize funds judiciously and speed up the developmental programme of the department so that fixed targets can be achieved well in time.
The meeting also discussed component-wise Action Plan for current fiscal particularly establishment of high density orchards.
The Chief Horticulture Officers were directed to develop ‘Public Sector Nurseries and ensure production of quality fruit plants in these nurseries.
Further, Chief Horticulture, Officer, Budgam was directed to make the Canning Centre functional within a week’s time so that the unemployed youth can get short term training course in the art of fruit preservation.
It was given out that two fruit villages at Khag Budgam and Sogam Kupwara and one Almond Nursery at Shopian, under Public sector, has been approved under Capex Budget.
