Ladakh reels under intense cold wave

Ladakh in Kashmir region of Jammu and Kashmir continues to be gripped in cold wave, while as night temperatures dipped further at most places.

Kargil recorded the night’s lowest temperature at minus 7.6 degrees Celsius while neighbouring Leh recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.5, Met office said.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 0.9 while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius.

Kokernag town recorded a low of 0.7 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius last night.

The tourist resort Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.0 and minus 4.3 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Jammu recorded a low of 9.4 degrees Celsius while Batote recorded 4.8, Banihal recorded 3.0, and Bhaderwah recorded  2.4 degree Celsius.

“Weather is likely to remain dry in the state during next five to six days,” an official said.
