Kashmir shuts to mark October 27

Srinagar

While the army is celebrating its infantry day, Kashmir is observing shutdown on Joint resistance leadership call Saturday against the landing of the army on this day in 1947.

All shops and other business establishments, schools and colleges remained closed across Kashmir valley while attendance of employees in government offices was reported to be very thin. The Joint Resistance Leadership had called for a complete strike to mark the “black day” in the history of Kashmir.

Reports of shut down have reached from almost all the district and Tehsil headquarters of the valley.

It is pertinent to mention here that on this day in 1947, Delhi airlifted its forces to Srinagar after the last monarch of Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh “signed the conditional Instrument of Accession” with India.

Meanwhile, authorities have imposed curfew-like restrictions in several parts of Kashmir to prevent the protests. Rail services have also been suspended across Kashmir in view of the shutdown.
