Internet ban in South Kashmir parts stifle students, businessmen

Srinagar

Authorities’ decision to suspend internet service in South Kashmir has been disrupting work and study for entrepreneurs, educationists, and students badly, mostly in Pulwama and Shopian.

The services were blocked following the resignations from cops mostly SPO’s from south Kashmir through social media last week, since then the service was not resumed. The worst-hit are Pulwama and Shopian.

The traders said they use the internet for business purposes while students use YouTube and other sites for studying purpose. In general, common people have been suffering immensely in both the districts in wake of internet suspension.

“Why to ban internet and put everyone in trouble when they can block those social media sites which they find problematic. It has become a norm in South Kashmir for authorities to add to the woes of common people,” said a group of students, who added that they are unable to prepare for various competitive exams scheduled this year.

They said with no Internet in their region, the government has put their careers at stake. They also threatened to launch a stir in case the Internet is not restored soon in south Kashmir.
