The incessant rains lashing different parts of the valley have created panic across the State.
The gauge reading of the river Jehlem has been consistently rising creating panic among the residents particularly the Srinagarites, and the fear of flood is once again knocking at the doors.
Notably, the gauge reading of the river Jehlem at the Sangam is increasing and at around 2 pm it was recorded as 17.1 feet while as the gauge reading at Ram Munshi Bagh at around the same time was recorded as 9.95 feet. The gauge reading at Asham around the same time was recorded as 4.00 feet.
Taking to social networking site Twitter, DC Srinagar Syed Abid Rashid Shah wrote: “7051112345 9419042342 Helpline Nos for District Srinagar, Pl contact us should there be a need to get in touch with the administration for assistance in view of the incessant rainfall. Issued in public interest, DC Srinagar.”
Meanwhile, the water level has also been rising in Vaishaw nallah in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, washing away several diversions constructed after 2014 flood.
Reports said that the gushing water of the nallah following heavy rains since last night washed away many diversions in Kulgam district.
These diversions were constructed following washing away of many bridges in 2014 flood.
“In view of precipitation, forecast & rise in water levels the habitations residing along TRIBUTARIES (Nallahs) of SOUTH KASHMIR especially Vishow Nallah, Lidder Nallah are advised to remain vigilant during the day and also night today to avoid any sudden flood damages,” says Irrigation and Flood Control Department – IFC, Kashmir.
Notably, Srinagar Municipal Corporation has put its men and machinery on task to dewater the waterlogged areas in different parts of Srinagar city.
Besides sucker machines and mobile pumps, the entire concerned sanitation staff has been pressed into service since early morning.
Dewatering exercise which is personally being monitored by Commissioner SMC Riyaz Ahmed Wani is being carried out in inundated areas including Hari Singh High Street, Lal Chowk, Batamaloo, Jehangir Chowk, Rajbagh, Jawahar Nagar and other areas.
All the dewatering stations including mobile pumps have been kept operational.
Commissioner SMC along with the entire concerned staff has personally visited the dewatering stations and the inundated areas where SMC workers are already seen on the job to dewater the different places.
The Control room is already activated and the general public can contact helpline i.e 2474499 in case of reporting any submergence from their concerned areas.
