Zaira Wasim bags Filmfare award in supporting role for ‘Secret Superstar’

Srinagar: On January 20, 2018, when Bollywood came together to celebrate the industry’s talent at 63rd Jio Filmfare Awards 2018, held in Mumbai, Kashmir’s Dangal girl Zaira Waseem’s “Secret Superstar” received three awards.

Zaira received the Critics’ award for best actor (Female) for Secret Superstar, while the movie has also received the best actor in a Supporting Role (Female)  Meher Vij for Secret Superstar.

Meghna Mishra won the Best Playback Singer (Female) for the song Nach Di Phira, which is composed by Amit Trivedi and the lyrics are penned down by Kausar Munir.

The movie Secret Superstar has also pocketed Rs. 174 crore in the opening weekend beating Zaira’s Dangal’s opening weekend record in China from May last year.

“Secret Superstar packs a solid punch in its opening weekend in China. Close to Rs. 175 crore in three days.” The opening weekend collection of Secret Superstar in India was merely Rs. 30 crore. For Secret Superstar, which was made on a budget of Rs. 15 crores, this is as Taran Adarsh puts it: “Mind-boggling indeed,” an Indian film critic and journalist Taran Adarsh also wrote on Twitter.

Before Secret Superstar, Zaira’s Dangal, which took the China box office by storm. Dangal became the highest grossing Indian film in China within weeks of its release in May 2017. The success story of Dangal in China is unparalleled and now, a Variety magazine report states that Secret Superstar is “poised to top China box office.”

Superstar is the story of India Malik (Zaira Wasim), who breaks regressive societal shackles to become a successful singer against all odds. The film is directed by Advait Chandan and it also stars Meher Vij in a pivotal role.
