Shopian killings: NC-PDP draw daggers on Twitter

SRINAGAR: Ruling PDP and opposition NC are engaged in a serious virtual battle with each other on Shopian. They, however, took the Kabul route!

Hours before twin civilian killings in Gawonpora village of Shopian by army, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufit condemned blast in Kabul on tweeter.

“I strongly condemn the suicide car bomb attack in Afghan capital. We all must unite to vanquish this nexus of terror. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims & their families,” Mehbooba Mufti tweeted.

Quoting Mehbooba Mufti’s tweet former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah wrote: “The violence in Kabul is tragic. It’s even more unfortunate when you can find words here & and have none for the civilians killed in Shopian today @MehboobaMufti. You need to sort out the people managing your account.”

This tweet of Omar drew a thread of reaction from PDP’s Youth President, Wahidur Rehman Parra, who engaged Omar in a war of words.

“At least we don’t play politics on bodies. Magisterial inquiry has been ordered and within 15 days report to be submitted. Every innocent death needs to be condemned,” Parra replied.

But the war of words didn’t stop here as Omar took a dig at Parra and wrote: “You do as bad a job running her twitter account as she does running the government. BTW your boss has based her ENTIRE career on doing politics over dead bodies.”

Ganawpora Killings: The Complete Story

Para was quick to reply: “No one can compete with you on twitter, Sir. Your gaining of twitter space has been equally promotional to your ceding of ground space. With due regards.”

NC’s spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattoo too jumped in and reacted to Para’s tweets: “And I can understand the heartburn at complete Indifference to Mehbooba’s social media presence. First twitter was bad, now twitter is good as she is on it (through Ibnebatutta) and its bad again she doesn’t have a following. Fascinating stuff. You guys need to grow up.”
