Afreen Haider of Class 12th from Delhi Public School Athwajan Srinagar has bagged the silver medal in the 63 kg weight category in Taekwondo Martial Arts at the 63rd National School Games 2017-18 held in Kannur Kerala.
The spokesman said 40 teams from across the country including 29 states and other welfare, SAI and board teams, participated in the games.
Afreen emerged as the runner-up in the finals losing to Haryana (6-4) round first (6-6) in round second and (4-2) in the third round, ending the tournament with a win-loss ratio of 4-1. She has also secured a berth in the trials for the upcoming world school games 2017-18, to be held in Australia this year. She is the only one from the state to win a medal in the tournament.
The school is delighted at her stupendous effort and wishes her the best in all her future endeavours. The school Chairman has promised to extend every kind of help that the school can provide, since it is a reflection of the effort that it has put in establishing, and nourishing local talent.
