Ambulances damaged by forces which were carrying injured civilians from Pulwama to SMHS in July 2016.

An emergency meeting of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) was held on Thursday wherein the attacks on medical staff while being ferried in ambulances for duties was strongly condemned.

“Yesterday a doctor posted at SDH Sopore was hit with a stone on his face by a miscreant while on way to his duty,” Dak said in statement issued this afternoon.

“Today in another incident, an ambulance came under attack in South Kashmir. Some days ago, an employee of District Hospital Pulwama was assaulted by forces,” the statement said.

DAK has been highlighting and appealing this grave issue since the inception of current uprising and there has been a marked impact of the same, the statement added.

“But unfortunately, there is no end to these incidences and this has made our lives exposed to threat and fear always while going to duties,” the doctors association said.

DAK appealed all stakeholders to kindly intervene and allow smooth movement of medical staff and ambulances ferrying patients or health staff.

“Medical Employees have been working with dedication since the crisis started and are focused to serve the patients but unruly incidents like these have been demoralising them to a greater extent and there is always a threat of life to them,” the statement said.
