#Day84: Forces Raid Saderkoot Chiselling Workshops, Inflict Damages Worth Lakhs, says Association

With unionist politicians coming in open against “Operation ransacking”, however, there is no end to this “form of actions”.

Office bearers of Stone Workers Association Saderkoot in Bandipora district said that police and CRPF men raided the village around 12:30 AM during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

“The men in uniform started damaging Hamams, which were ready to be installed in houses and Masjids,” said Bashir Ahmad Khan, president of Stone Workers Association, Saderkoot.

“People were awoken when forces raided,” Bashir said, “but people could not come out of their homes because of fear.”

He said that at least ten chiselling workshops. “Each workshop had readied at least two Hamams which cost around Rs 3 lakh each,” he said, “forces have inflicted damages worth lakhs of rupees.”

Saderkoot, a rural area, lies on the left side of Srinagar-Bandipora with Harmukh mountains on the right side of the road. The people are essentially associated with chiselling.

In Saderkoot, 13 regiment of Rashtriya Rifles of Indian army has its base. The residents first suspected that the soldiers of the same camp had raided the village and inflicted damages.

“When met some army men including a Subedar, who categorically said that none of their men was involved in the action,” Bashir said. “They told us that it were police and CRPF men who came and carried out the operation ransacking.”

Bashir added that some civilians received minor pellet injuries on Thursday afternoon during some stone pelting incident.
