The cabinet that had slightly more than two hours meeting had adopted the recommendations of the cabinet sub committee (CSC) recommendations totally and completely, reports said. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who presided over the meeting Saturday is formally announcing the decision in a press conference, reports from Jammu said.
Informed sources said the cabinet discussed the recommendations threadbare and finally adopted the report that envisages creating 659 units. There was debate about the financial implications of the decision as well.
The cabinet also agreed to the recommendation making existing panchayat’s co-terminus with the Patwar Halqas. It would trigger a requirement of more than 2000 patwaris in coming days.
The cabinet also approved hike in bus fares across the board. A decision regarding the DA was also taken.
Given the fact that the NC and Congress leaders have conveyed to their respective constituencies about the upgradation of the existing administrative units, there were celebrations in certain areas in Jammu in the afternoon.
