Police on Tuesday booked a “notorious” drug peddler from Downtown area of the city under the under public safety act (PSA), a police spokesman said.
A police spokesman said that in a first of its kind in Nowhatta area of Downtown, Srinagar Police lodged one infamous notorious drug peddler namely Gh Nabi Sheikh @Nabbe Kalla son of Habibullah Sheikh a resident of Tujgari Mohalla Shiekh Colony to Central Jail Kupwara under Public Safety Act.
“The peddler is infamous for his notorious acts of charas, Ghanja sale among the youth, particularly from downtown. Many FIR’s under NDPS are registered against this drug peddler in various Police Stations,” said the spokesman.
He said that action against the person was taken by police station Nowhatta on the directions of SSP Srinagar Dr Haseeb Mughal -JKPS.
He added SSP Srinagar has appealed people of Srinagar City to come forward and cooperate with the police in curbing the menace of drug peddling.
“He has assured people that Srinagar police is committed for the drug-free Srinagar and will take every step to save the young generation from becoming a victim of drug mafia,” said police spokesman in a statement.
