The Jammu and Kashmir, is facing novel weather for the past couple of days as night temperature fluctuate, adding the woes of people of the state facing acute power shortage this winter.
Cloud overnight improves the temperature but next day clear sky further dip it and at times the temperature nosedived to record low.
Ladakh region continued to be the coldest place in the state with Kargil recording a low of minus 9.6 degrees Celsius today as against minus 3.7 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday. The town had recorded the coldest night of the season with night temperature dipping to minus 15.4 degrees Celsius a day before.
Similarly, Leh recorded a low of minus 7.1 degrees Celsius today which was contrary to yesterday’s low of minus 6.2. The town had registered a low of minus 11.6 degrees Celsius a day earlier.
Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, recorded a low of minus 2.7 degrees Celsius as against 0.7 degrees Celsius yesterday. The city had recorded a low of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius a day before.
The twin hill resort of Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.5 and minus four degrees Celsius, respectively, today. The twin hill resorts had recorded a low of minus 0.3 and minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, respectively, yesterday which was contrary to a low of minus 4.9 and minus 4.4 degrees Celsius a day before.
Jammu, the winter capital, recorded a low of 7.8 degrees Celsius today as against a low of 10.4 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday. A day earlier, it recorded a low of 7.4 degrees Celsius.
Similarly, Katra recorded a minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celcius today as against 18.4 degrees Celsius yesterday. Batote recorded a low of 4.3 degrees Celsius today as against 8 degrees Celsius yesterday.
Banihal recorded a low of 0.8 degrees Celsius today which was contrary to yesterday’s 4.6 degrees Celsius. Bhaderwah registered a low of 2 degrees Celsius today compared to yesterday’s 4.9 degrees Celsius. Udhampur recorded a low of 4.2 degrees Celsius as against 8 degrees Celsius yesterday.
Weathermen forecast clear sky with haze in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, traffic on the 300-km Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link between Kashmir valley and the rest of the world, continued to remain restricted to one-way. Vehicles are plying from Jammu to Srinagar on Thursday, said a traffic official.
They said keeping in view the overall condition of the road, especially between Jawahar Tunnel and Ramban coupled with the narrow width of the national highway at some places, only one-way movement of traffic is feasible today.
However, traffic on the 434-km Srinagar-Leh and historic Mughal road remained closed since December 11-12. (Kashmir Wire)
