Faculty Seminar on Kashmir Studies concludes at Kashmir University

The 1st Faculty Seminar on Kashmir Studies titled ‘Contemporary Academic Discourses on Kashmir: Society, Culture, and Politics’ concludes at the University of Kashmir. The Seminar was organised by the Institute of Kashmir Studies (IKS), University of Kashmir.

The two-day seminar started on 27th De 2017 and saw the participation of more than 20 faculty members from the university. The faculty members made presentations on research papers published by them in Journals and Edited Books. The aim of the seminar was to revisit research on Kashmir, published by faculty members at the University, and to engage in a larger academic debate and discussion on the same. The papers presented covered themes like Culture, Language, Gender, Kinship, Health, Politics and Science-Social Science Interdisciplinarity.

Prof. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Director, IKS and Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir was the Chief Guest in Session IV, the final paper presentation session. Prof. Zafar A. Reshi, Dean, Research at University of Kashmir was the Chief Guest in the Valedictory Session.

Dr. Humaira Showkat, Coordinator, IKS was the Convenor of the Seminar, and M. Ibrahim, Assistant Professor, IKS was the Organising Secretary. Dr. Farrukh Faheem, Assistant Professor, IKS presented the Vote of Thanks.

This was the fourth major academic activity at IKS in 2017, after the 1st Young Scholars Conference in September 2017, Seminar by MA students from Elective Courses on ‘Culture and Politics in Kashmir’ and invited talk by Mr. P. Sewgobind, visiting scholar from Potsdam University on ‘Memory Practices among Hindustani Diaspora’ in November 2017.
