“There was a contact between the militants hold up in the locality and the security forces,” a police officer said in Srinagar. “Then the firing stopped.”
The officer said the quick reaction team is still on spot. He had no more information.
A civil administration officer confirmed the incident insisting the details are yet to emerge. The village is located in between the two access roads from Srinagar. It can be reached from Newa side as well as from Kakpora side.
Earlier media reports suggested it was an “encounter” and a number of militants were hold up in the village.
The region is quite sensitive to the operations and there have been various incidents in which the youth have barged into the cordon and help hold up militants to escape. So far there is no such report.
