At least five persons were injured when forces raided a pro-freedom rally venue in South Kashmir’s Islamabad district on Thursday.
Witnesses and local reports said that people of Furrah village had planned a pro-freedom rally-cum-unity conference today.
“People were on roads for all the night,” locals said, “the people feared that forces might foil it thus they were alert.”
The locals said that forces raided the venue early this morning and damaged the stage.
“Tent which was erected by the locals to accommodate people was brought down; electricity generator was taken by police along with them; the food which was prepared for the guests arriving g from various too was taken away by police,” locals said.
They added that people resisted the forces action holding pro-freedom demonstrations. “The forces fired numerous tear gas canisters and pellets in which at least five civilians were injured,” they said.
Sources in district hospital Islamabad said that two of the injured civilians were shifted to Srinagar for advanced treatment.
“They were hit by pellets in their eyes,” they said.
