Vaishno Devi University Sends Prof Home After Sexual Harassment Allegation

SRINAGAR: Authorities at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) have sent a professor on leave after the students accused him of sexual misconduct. However, the students continued their protest and were seeking punishment beyond a forced leave.

Reports said the students have accused Prof Hari Govind Mishra, who heads the business school and is also the University’s Dean for Students Welfare, of sexual misconduct. The university sent the teacher on leave till the outcome of the investigations.

It was a PhD scholar who made the complaint against the professor. Soon it spread like wildfire and triggered protests.

“The University shall ensure that the enquiry is taken to its logical conclusion in a time-bound manner and action, as warranted under rules, shall be taken. Meanwhile, the accused faculty member has been sent on leave and relieved of his official duties till the completion of the enquiry proceedings,” the handout issued by the university said.

There have been various other interesting instances taking place on the campus in wake of the investigations.

This is the second such incident being reported from the Jammu region. In an earlier issue, a senior professor of the Jammu University, who had to take over the department as head, committed suicide in wake of allegations. Now a police team is looking into the allegations.
