SRINAGAR: Two youths from Poonch were arrested by the police near the Rajasthan border. The arrest were carried out in the Jaisalmer district on Friday evening.
Reports appearing in the media identified the two youth as Jameel Iqbal and Maruf Hussain. They were arrested for “collecting donations in the prohibited area without permission.”
They were taken for interrogation by a Joint Investigation Committee. The arrests followed the police post at Khuiyala got information about the movement of the two youth.
This is not the first incident of its kind. Last year, in August, the Rajasthan police detained two Poonch youth while wandering around in a Rajasthan village, Rama, falling in the territorial jurisdiction of Jaisalmer district. Identified as Shawkat Husaia and Shoiit Hussain, the two residents of Poonch were arrested along with Rs 26,000 which they had collected as donations for a madrasa.
Some youth from Poonch are routinely raising donations for religious purposes from the area.
