SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesman in a statement said that a police party of Police Station Yaripora led by SHO PS Yaripora during surprise naka checking at Badroo, Yaripora intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration number JK15-2063 with two persons on board.
“During search, 10 gram of Brown sugar was recovered from their possession,” said the spokesman.
“They have been identified as Sajad Ahmad Baghat son of Ghulam Hassan Baghat and his wife both residents of Kokergund, Yaripora. They have been arrested and shifted to PS Yaripora and Women Cell Kulgam where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” he said.
He added that Police Station Behibagh received a specific information through reliable sources that one person namely Ghulam Hassan Malik son of Ghulam Rasool Malik resident of Khee Jogipora has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substance in his residential house.
“On receipt of this information, a police party from Police Station Behibagh alongwith Executive Magistrate concerned raided the said location. During search, officers were able to recover 14kgs of Poppy Straw from the said house. The accused person was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody,” said police spokesman in a statement.
“Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated,” he said.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” he added.
