Pakistan approaches UN over J&K domicile issue, says Imran Khan

SRINAGAR: The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan said on Tuesday that he has approached the United Nations related to the issuance of domicile certificates to Non-natives of Kashmir.

As per the new domicile law, non-permanent residents who have residency proof of at least 15 years in Jammu and Kashmir are entitled to get domicile certificates.

Taking to social networking site Twitter, Imran Khan wrote: “I have approached the UN Secretary-General and am reaching out to other world leaders. India must be stopped from this unacceptable path that further usurps the legal and internationally guaranteed rights of the Kashmiri people and seriously imperils peace and security in South Asia.”

Imran Khan has been trying to attract the attention of International world leaders and community towards the situation in Kashmir post-August 05, the day when the state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into a union territory and the article 370 was abolished.

Imran Khan also said that India is now putting fresh attempts to change the demography of Kashmir by issuing domicile certificates to Indian nationals.

“The issuance of domicile certificates to 25,000 Indian nationals is illegal, in violation of the UNSC resolutions and international law, including the 4th Geneva convention,” Khan tweeted

However, India maintains that the abrogation of article 370 of Kashmir is the internal matter of India.
