Govt extends 4G internet ban in J&K

SRINAGAR: The J&K Government on Wednesday extended the 4G mobile internet ban till August 19 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Internet was banned in Jammu and Kashmir together with phone connectivity on August 5, 2019, when the Government of India stripped the State of its special Constitutional position. Thereafter phones were restored in a phased manner and low-speed 2G internet was resumed on January 25, 2020. High-speed 4G internet is still banned in J&K.

In an order, Principal Secretary Home Department Shaleen Kabra said that the mobile internet speed will remain restricted to 2G in Jammu and Kashmir till August 29 when a new review will be taken.

These services will not be available on pre-paid SIM cards unless verified as per the norms applicable for post-paid connection.
