Congress Leaders Condemn Police Action Against Prof Soz

SRINAGAR:  Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice Presidents Ghulam Nabi Monga, Mohammad Anwar Bhat, senior Congress leader and former minister Khem Lata Wakhlu and other senior party leader today strongly condemned the police action against former JKPCC President and Union Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, at his residence.

Congress leader and former Union minister Saifuddin Soz climbed the wall and spoke to the media about his detention on Thursday, July 30, 2020

In a joint statement, the Congress leaders said the behaviour of the police against such a seasoned politician is totally unacceptable. “The Government lied to the Supreme Court that Soz sahib is a free man. In its affidavit before the apex court, the Government lied that he was never detained or placed under house arrest. The reality is that he has been detained since last August and is not being allowed to move out of his house,” they said.

“Soz sahib has been re-elected numerous times for the Lok Sabha and also served as Union Minister besides being the President of the JKPCC for a long time. His house detention is not only illegal, mala-fide and unconstitutional but also extremely appalling,” the Congress leaders said.

Controversy Over Soz’s “House Arrest” Becomes Interesting

They demanded his release without any further delay along with all the political leaders and activists detained since last August.
