On Saturday, two militants of LeT were killed in an encounter in the Ranbirgarh-Panzinara area of Srinagar outskirts after a joint cordon and search operation was launched by police, 29 RR and CRPF.
Later the police identified the slain militant as Ishfaq Rashid Khan and Ajaz Bhat. Bhat was said to be a resident of Laribal village in Kakapora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
However, Khan, a resident of Sozeith area in Srinagar as of now was said to be the “last Srinagar resident in the militant ranks”.
After the bodies were retrieved, they were laid to rest in Ganderbal area of central Kashmir.
Earlier this month, IGP Kumar has said that Srinagar could never be militancy-free due to entry of militants from other districts and before they can set up their base in Srinagar they are killed.
“Srinagar is a city where militants come often. Sometimes they come for medical treatment, collecting funds, or even for meetings. Srinagar can never be militant free,” he had said on July 3 after an encounter on the outskirts of Srinagar.
“The militants will keep on coming here. And when we get information about the militants, we will keep on carrying out encounters,” he said.
