SRINAGAR: Kashmiri lady, who was arrested by Delhi Police in March along with her husband, has tested positive for Covid-19, The Hindustan Times reported. The lady is currently in the custody of NIA that is investigating the case.
“Beigh, during the interrogation, developed symptoms following which she underwent Covid-19 test,” the newspaper reported. “The NIA informed the duty magistrate at Patiala House on Sunday that Beigh has been found “positive” for Coronavirus.”
The newspaper quoted Beigh’s lawyer, M S Khan saying: “I urged the court that Beigh should be immediately referred to a hospital and permission be granted for her to talk to me regularly, which was not allowed earlier.” The court, the newspaper said, has referred Beigh to Delhi’s Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) hospital for treatment. Her husband Sami, however, has not shown any signs of the infection yet.
Beigh and her husband Jahanzaib Sami, residents of Shivpora in Srinagar were arrested by Delhi Police’s Special Cell from Delhi’s Jamia Nagar in March for their alleged links with ISKP. They were accused of instigated protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the police said.
Later, the NIA took their custody. Along with the couple, the newspaper said, the NIA took custody of Mohammad Abdullah Basith from Tihar jail on May 29. A resident of Hyderabad, Basith has been arrested in August 2018 for “allegedly inspiring several persons to join the outfit and carry out major attacks in India”.
The newspaper said the trip tested negative in May. After nine days of interrogation at NIA headquarters, Ms Beigh tested positive, unlike the two men. Now, the NIA has asked the entire team, comprising 7-8 officials including an SP, of investigators to get into quarantine.
