SRINAGAR: At least nine families comprised of 50 persons were Friday shifted to safer places in wake of heavy mortar shelling along LoC in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Official sources said that at least 50 persons from Salikote village were shifted to NHPC colony Bandi Uri, where local administration is taking care of their needs.
Locals said that the exchange triggered panic in Salikote, Churanda, Batgrah, Tilawari, Balkote, Nambla, Thajal, Mohthal villages.
Earlier, a woman Akhter Begum wife of Zahoor Ahmad of Batgran village was killed in the shelling.
Another woman Parveena Begum wife Shabir Ahmad sheikh of Nambla suffered minor injuries and was shifted to SDH Uri for treatment, officials said.
Army’s Srinagar based spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia in a statement said, “On 12 Jun 2020, in the morning hours Pakistan initiated an Unprovoked Ceasefire Violation (CFV) along the LoC in Rampur Sector of District Baramula (J&K) by firing Mortars and other weapons. The befitting response is being given.”
An official told Kashmir Life that the officers are monitoring the situation if required more people will be shifted to safer places.
