Director Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat on Sunday said that increased returns to the growers and farmers and registering higher yield are prime focus of the Department.
The Director made these remarks during an interaction with members of Kandi Fruit and Vegetable Growers & Dealers Association Pulwama.
During the interaction, members of the Association put forth various problems being faced them besides difficulty in arranging finance from concerned institutions.
Further, they also demanded that an exclusive Horticulture Estate be established for promotion of the sector and losses suffered in recent snowfall compensated at an earliest.
The Director assured the delegates that their genuine demand shall be addressed and looked into accordingly. He stressed that prime concern should be increased returns to the orchardists/farmers and introduction of latest technologies for higher yield and employment generations.
He also directed Chief Horticulture Officers to gear up their field staff for final assessment of recent snowfall damages in consultation with revenue authorities so that the same is submitted to concerned quarters for compensation to affected farmers.
