Hurriyat (G) concerned over ‘horrendous situation’ in Kashmir

Hurriyat (G) Conference Secretary-General, G N Sumji on Sunday expressed grave concern over the horrendous situation, prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir as a result of deployment of heavy contingents of military and police force against the civil population and political activists to “suppress” their legitimate and democratic voice for Right to Self Determination. It is a military action to trample down the right to live a dignified life and freedom of expression, he said.

The spokesman in a statement said that while condemning the use of force against innocent civilians in Hajin Bandipora, Sumji said that during nocturnal raids dozens of political leaders and activists were subjected humiliation, third-degree torture, and inhuman treatment.

Hurriyat leader expressed his deep anguish and dismay on intimidating warnings served to pro-resistance political activists to face dire consequences if they do not follow their dictations. Hurriyat leader strongly condemned the arrest of pro-freedom activists and leaders including Bashir Ahmad Lone, Ghulam Rasool Dar, Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Ghulam Hassan Shah, Abdul Hamid Parray, Khurshid Ahmad Hajam, Nasir Ahmad Rather, Ajaz Ahmad Lone, Mumtaz Ahmad Dar, Irshad Ahmad Dar, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and others.

Terming police and forces action against the people and political activists as the worst form of “state terrorism”, Sumji demanded intervention by the United Nations Human Rights Commission to prevail upon India to shun human rights abuses in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, on the directions of Syed Ali Geelani, a delegation led by Bashir Ahmad Andrabi visited the residence of slain young student Faizan Ahmad Khan a young in Ladu Pampore. Andrabi paid rich tributes to “martyr” and extended his deep condolences and consolations to the bereaved family.
