Community task force promoted by Indo Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) in Sumbal, Sonawari, and Pattan of Bandipora and Baramulla districts are monitoring the flood situation and gearing up for response to any flood threat in the area.
With receding water levels in south Kashmir and Srinagar, the downstream areas in Bandipora and Baramulla are still vulnerable to any spillover of water. These community task force have been trained and provided with early response rescue kits by IGSSS.
Youth in Ghatgoplan, Gund-e-Ibrahim, MandyarimMaulabad villages of Baramulla and Zalpora and Nowgam villages of Bandipora, who are part of these task forces have mobilized themselves and started strengthening the embankments of the local rivulets. Similarly, the government has issued 1000 sacks to strengthen the embankments in Ghatgopalan village.
According to Yasir Qureshi, Regional Manager of IGSS, the team is monitoring the situation and is ready to provide help on the ground to government and community groups for responding to the flood situation. We have around 350 volunteers ready to meet any challenge.
