Er Rashid should apologise for his unparliamentary behaviour: SDSJK

Srinagar

In an emergency meeting held under the chairmanship of President Society of Dental Surgeons, J&K (SDSJK) Dr Imtyaz Banday, the association on Sunday has strongly condemned the unparliamentary behaviour shown by legislator Er A Rasheed.  The speech amount to a threat rather than streamlining the health system which is already understaffed overburdened and works on roster system to make health institutes functional.

The spokesman said Hon’ble MLA on one hand in his video accepts the human resource problem but simultaneously issues a threat, especially to the medical staff. The concerned doctor who was marked D in the attendance of NTPHC Monbal, Kupwara was reportedly undergoing Skill Lab Training officially and in no way is to be blamed for which the legislator made hue and cry.

The legislator rather makes a hill out of mole should have appreciated the concerned doctor who is trying his best to run the institution single-handedly and simultaneously attending skill development training. The mandate of NTPHC is much lower than the PHC and simultaneously there is a dearth of staff who work under a roster set up across the state.

He said that Hon’ble legislator should understand the fact that the mushrooming of Primary Health Centres after every couple of kilometres is nothing but sheer vote bank appeasement politics and is against the set norms of Indian Public Health Standards. Furthermore making almost every institute to run 24×7 without the requisite creation of Human Resource has made the functioning herculean and at the cost of the health of Health Personnel working under tremendous stressful condition.

SDSJK acknowledges that there are lacunae in the system but the accusation & unparliamentary approach of the legislator can’t be tolerated or generalised. The way he made a taunt to the head of our department who first is a Doctor & then a Director is deplorable and needs to be condemned in strong words.

Health Department and particularly the doctors have been working very passionately under the directorship of Dr Saleem ur Rehman which has been acknowledged nationally as well by the state government. The Central Govt’s NITI Ayog has recently ranked the state health department at number 2 in fastest improving health state in terms of major health indices. It has been only possible by the dedicated work shown by doctors and paramedic staff across the state keeping the fact into consideration that the staff is working against all odds, he said.

Pertinently to mention in his constituency a postgraduate Dental Surgeon has been posted at a health institute which lacks dental unit. This sheerly amounts a loss to state exchequer and dents patient care as the said doctor was serving the patients at SDH Langate. It is quite astonishing that the said doctor will be doing absolutely no good to the patient at the said PHC.

The displeasing comments of Er Rashid have discouraged the medical fraternity to the core. As such SDSJK is aghast and deeply hurt and demands for an open apology from the Hon’ble legislator otherwise a state-wide protest against him will be launched, the spokesman added.
