Clashes erupt amid shutdown in Shopian

Srinagar

Amid shutdown, clashes broke out between the youth and government forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.

Reports said that youth took to the streets and pelted government forces deployed at many places in the district with stone, triggering clashes.

However, the forces responded by firing tear gas shells to disperse the protesting youth.

The clashes were going on when this report was filled.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed on the second consecutive day today in the district to mourn the killing of a local youth who was killed during an attack in Lazibal area of Islamabad district on Thursday.

A youth identified as Shakeeb Shabir was killed after militants fired at government forces at Lazibal crossing at about 2:20 pm yesterday, but the fire missed the target and hit him, police said.
