Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat today said that a plan is under active consideration of the Government under which all district hospitals in the State would get a state-of-art drug de-addiction centre.
The Minister said this at a day-long seminar on drug addiction which organized by JKSACS, IMHANS in collaboration with Civil Society Forum Kashmir at Community General Hospital IMHANS-Kashmir unit, Government Medical College Srinagar.
Addressing the gathering, Bhagat said that the drug addiction is a serious issue that needs concerted efforts so that this menace is rooted out from the State.
He said awareness programmes are being organized at district and block levels across the State so that ill effects of the substance abuse are highlighted. He said that regional level institutions will be upgraded and fully equipped for proper rehabilitation of addicts.
The Minister said that society as whole needs to adopt a proactive approach to curb drug addiction. Parents should watch their children and their expenses, while as mohalla committees should also play their role.
Various civil society members and doctors also spoke on the rising graph of drug addiction in the valley besides gave valuable suggestions to curb this menace.
Principal Government Medical College Dr. Saima Rasheed informed the audience about the treatment and facilities which are being provided for rehab of addicts.
