Slain Lashkar man carried Rs 10 lakh bounty on his head

SRINAGAR: Two Lashkar-e-Tobia militants including a wanted commander carrying Rs 10 lakh reward on his head, were killed in an encounter with police and security forces in Brinty Dialgam area of Anantnag District today, police said.

Acting on specific information about the presence of militants at Brinty, Dialgam, a police spokesman said, police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in wee hours today. “While the cordon was being laid some militants outside a house opened fire on the joint search party which was retaliated,” the spokesman said. “In the cross firing a woman was injured who later on succumbed to her injuries.” She was identified as Tahira wife of Abdul Rashid Chopan.

In this process two militants took 17 civilians including children, women and elderly persons as hostages. The hostages were rescued without any harm after meticulous efforts of the forces, the spokesman said.

After the rescue, the operation to neutralize the militants started. When the encounter was going on an unruly mob on the behest of militants and over ground workers started stone pelting on the operating parties to disrupt the operation and help the terrorists escape. In this process five miscreants were injured due to cross firing. One of the injured identified as Shahdab Ahmad Chopan  a resident of Dialgam succumbed to his injuries. Rest of the injured are under treatment in Srinagar and are out of danger sofar.

The encounter ended with the elimination of two top commanders of LeT. They have been identified as Bashir Ahmad @ Bashir Lashkar a resident of Soaf Shalibugh and a Pakistani terrorist identified as Abu Maz.

Both of them were involved in many criminal cases including martyring SHO of Police Station Achabal and five policemen  at Thajiwara on 16th of last month.
