National Conference on Saturday condemned the police action in Khrew where a number of youth were injured and others arrested by the police after its intervention into an issue pertaining to the subversion of the truckers’ union there.

National Conference Spokesperson, Junaid Azim Mattu, demanded the immediate release of the arrested youth and also asked the Government to initiate an inquiry into the matter.

“This is an issue pertaining to the truck owners and drivers’ union in Khrew, Pampore where an overt political attempt is being made to subvert the union at the behest of the local MLA. National Conference strongly condemns the police action and the unwarranted use of force in Khrew. The Police should release the arrested youth immediately and all possible medical assistance should be extended to those who received injuries,” Junaid Mattu said in a statement issued from Srinagar.

National Conference Youth Leader and Constituency In-charge Pampore, Yawar Masoodi strongly condemned the unwarranted use of force on innocent youth and asked the local MLA and the administration to desist from “exerting political pressure and police pressure” to circumvent a legitimate union for political motives.

“This issue is a creation of certain political entities who want to suppress and persecute the people into political submission. I hope the Administration pays heed to the mounting tension in the area and takes immediate measures to resolve this issue in a fair and just manner,” Yawar Masoodi said in the statement.

“We will continue to stand with the people and won’t allow anyone to suppress and harass them. The Police should immediately release the arrested youth and also ascertain why such unwarranted use of force was ordered and under whose political directions this happened,” Yawar Masoodi added.
