Army JCO Killed in ‘Accidental’ Fire

A Junior Commissioned officer (JCO) was killed in an “accidental fire” at Langate area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.

Reports said that Jai Prakash Singh of 30 Rashtriya Rifles posted at Langate army camp, received a serious bullet wound in his head while performing his duties.

“After hearing gunshot sound, his colleague rushed towards him where he was found lying in a pool of blood and took him to nearby medical room for treatment”, they said.

The 55-year-old was later airlifted to army’s 92 base hospital here for specialized treatment.

The officer, a resident of Shivpur village in Shambahaganj area of Gorakhpur district of UP later succumbed to injuries.

A spokesperson in Defence Ministry said that the officer died due to accidental fire.
