Cometh Mehbooba…

Three months after her father passed away, Mehbooba Mufti finally stepped into Mufti Sayeed’s shoes Monday when she was sworen-in as the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Amid the oath-taking ceremony in Jammu, Imran Nissar captures the moment of JK’s new crown league

Swearing Session: Mehbooba Mufti finally embraced the power Monday when she took an oath as the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. With the different mood, came the different vow. And with that, Mehbooba was good to go.

Crown Crowd: It was the day out for many who’s who in the unionist camp at Jammu. The high-profile assembly was apparently delighted watching the power embrace, days after the ‘reluctance’ faded.

Radiant Reflection: Shortly after taking an oath, the PDP chief and JK’s new top executive walked towards Governor Vohra, to exchange smile and handshake. And with that, cometh the hour, cometh the Mehbooba

Speaking Stride: Once done swearing-in ceremony concluded, Mehbooba straightaway steered steps towards the Secretariat, where she was assertive enough to tell her ministers: Perform or perish. So, is she a new tough master in the town? Wait, let the show begin, first.

Unity’s Union: In between came the Venkaiah Naidu, Modi’s Urban, Housing and Parliamentary Affairs minister. In absence of NDA’s patriarch (who is currently touring Arabia), Naidu was Delhi’s top man present at the ceremony. The old BJP man could only smile over the turn of the events.

Frame Figures: It was the time for Mehbooba and her council of ministers to sit and pose. Some new faces among the oldies. And glaring omissions, too. Is anybody saying: Amira Kadal, Chadoora? Well, some frames are meant to accommodate few and chosen ones, no?

Parade ‘Proud: Then came the ‘red carpet moment’. It was for the first time in JK’s history that any woman leader was being given the guard of honour. For the Fairview’s new matriarch, the moment came after three months of political suspense. Now, it seems, some suspenses are worth waiting.

Twosome Awesome: Abdullahs were there, too. While the junior was busy tweeting, the vintage Abdullah stuck to his old guns: amusing the attendance with his flamboyance. Even age defies certain logic!
